Abstract
Algeria is the largest consumer of milk in North Africa. However, its milk
production remains marginal and covers only one third of its milk needs. Thus, billions of liters
of milk are imported each year.
The application of good agricultural practices seems to be an important factor that
can positively influence milk production.
In this context, a contribution to the implementation of good agricultural practices
applied to the management of breeding, milking and collection of cow's milk has been made.
For this purpose, a farm with 105 head of animals, including 80 dairy cows, was selected. The
evaluation of the general management of the farm, animal welfare and hygiene of milking and
milk collection was carried out.
The results showed that the farm exceeds 78% in terms of application of good
agricultural husbandry practices; there are still details to be completed, modified or improved.
In addition, a significant gap was recorded in terms of good milking and milk collection
practices.
