Abstract

" Violence against the wife is considered one of the most serious forms of domestic violence due to its severe effects on both the individual and society This violence takes multiple forms, most notably physical, sexual psychological, and economic , It often occurs within an unequal relationship where the husband seeks to impose control through means of harm and coercion, At its core, it constitutes a blatant violation of human rights as enshrined in Islamic Sharia law, as well as national and international legislation. To address this phenomenon, the Algerian legislator introduced significant amendments to the Penal Code through Law No 19-15, aimed at strengthening criminal protection for abused wives by criminalizing various forms of domestic violence, The Family Code also provides special protection for women, most notably by establishing the principle of financial independence for wives, Furthermore, international agreements, particularly the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), have been activated. These efforts aim to ensure a dignified and safe life for women within the marital institution and to reduce all forms of violations of their rights."
