Abstract

This thesis examines Mohamed Fellag's performance Petits chocs des civilisations through a multidisciplinary approach combining thematic, pragmatic, and rhetorical analysis. Fellag uses humor to deconstruct stereotypes related to diasporic and postcolonial identities, drawing on his personal migration experience. Through simple cultural symbols, he defuses intercultural tensions and promotes mutual understanding. The artist asserts a multiple identity—Kabyle, Arab, and Francophone—and employs irony and hyperbole to expose and neutralize prejudice. His discourse, primarily assertive, seeks to provoke reflection and foster social change. Humor becomes a genuine tool for intercultural mediation and popular education. Ultimately, this major work illustrates how laughter can serve as a powerful catalyst for dialogue, mutual recognition, and social transformation.
