Abstract

This dissertation, entitled "The Symbolism of Titles in the Short Story Collection 'A Dot to Hell'", primarily aims to uncover the multiple symbolic meanings embedded in the titles of the stories in this collection by Saïd Boutajine. It also seeks to highlight their central role in guiding the reader’s understanding and enriching their textual experience. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, which enabled the deconstruction and analysis of these titles within their narrative contexts to extract the most prominent symbols and connotations they carry. This analysis led to important findings that revealed how titles function not merely as identifying labels, but as meaningful textual thresholds that encapsulate the stories’ content and reflect the author’s intellectual and artistic vision, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the short story as a whole.
