Abstract
Ibn Qunfudh Al-Qusanṭīnī is one of the Sufi travelers who
journeyed through the whirlwind seeking knowledge and a desire to
understand the Sufis of his time and preceding eras. His life
witnessed three concurrent eras: the Hafsid in the east, the Banu Wad
in the center, and the Marinids in the west. The fertile ground of these
neighboring dynasties witnessed active scientific movements, evident
through the emergence of scholars and the spread of educational
institutions like mosques and schools.
Alongside this scientific movement, Sufism flourished, attracting
people's interest. Among them was Ibn Qunfudh Al-Qusanṭīnī, whose
journey, named "With the Companion of the Poor and the Dignity of
the Humble," took him from Qusanṭīnah to Tlemcen to visit the tomb
of Abu MadyanShu'ayb, where he spoke of him and his miracles. He
then traveled to Fez to meet its scholars, companions, and disciples,
visiting their tombs and acquainting himself with the most important
sects and groups.
His journey was indeed a scientific and Sufi pilgrimage.
