Abstract
The emergence of E-learning has revolutionized the educational landscape, providing learners
with unprecedented flexibility, convenience, and access to a wide range of resources.
However, the success of this mode of learning is heavily dependent on the learners' ability to
take charge of their own learning process, a concept known as learner autonomy. This notion
of autonomy represents a crucial first step towards self-reliance and personal achievement ,
leading to a significant focus on self-directed learning among students and language
instructors. The major aim of this study is to looks at the impact of e-learning in encouraging
autonomous learning. Additionally, it aims at providing an understanding about the thoughts
and attitudes of EFL learners and teachers about the concept of autonomy and the
incorporation of e-learning into their studies. To reach these ends, the researcher opted for a
descriptive case study. A students’ questionnaire and a teachers’ interview were employed to
gather data. These tools allow for the collection of both quantitative and qualitative data. The
sample for this investigation consists of forty-two (42) Master One students and five (05)
teachers from the English department at Belhadj Bouchaib University, Ain Temouchent. The
findings support the main hypotheses and indicate that both teachers and students have
positive attitudes towards the integration of E-learning. They believe that it can enhance
learners’ autonomy by giving them more control over their learning experience. Based on
these results, it is highly recommended to use E-learning to foster students’ autonomy at the
university level, as it can contribute to their academic and professional success.
