Abstract
This work focuses on the analysis of the buckling of functionally graduated
plates and beams integrated into surface-bonded piezoelectric actuators and is subjected
to the combined action of thermal loads and constant tensile loads due to the applied
actuator. The properties of the functionally graduated material assumed to vary through
the thickness continuously. The equations of equilibrium and stability of piezoelectric
FGM beams and plates are obtained based on the theory of shear deformation. The
novelty of this work is to obtain the critical buckling temperature solution for FGM
plates and beams integrated with piezoelectric layers.
Particular attention is paid to the various parameters that influence the critical
thermal buckling load of piezoelectric FGM plates, such as: loading type, geometric
parameters, power law index and the effects of the applied actuator voltage.
