Abstract
The deterioration of the pavement is a spatio-temporal phenomenon, which requires a
dynamic mapping, integrated into a database recording all the relative information of the
object.
In addition, the use of geographic information systems (GIS) is of great interest in the field of
road network studies. These techniques allow the manipulation, processing and realization of
spatial analysis queries in a timely manner and according to the desired scale.
We exploited these techniques under ArcGIS environment, to realize a platform of a
geodatabase for the state of pavement degradation and the initial preparation of a model of
complete attribute tables. It facilitates the task of analysis and answers all possible requests.
The geodatabase must be defined in a topological GIS to control the relationships of the
spatial distribution of the points of degradation with classifications (level of danger,
frequency, geometry ... etc).
We found it useful to integrate satellite images of google earth, as georeferenced background
map and offline in ArcGIS, given their update (less than 03 years old) and their resolution
compared to existing topographic maps.
The result obtained in the form of CDM (Conceptual data model) of the Geodatabase can be
used as a useful support for the road maintenance service and to take advantage of all the
advantages of such a GIS.
