dc.description.abstract | Chalcones are precursor compounds for flavonoid biosynthesis in plants, and they can also be synthesised in the laboratory. Chalcones possess a broad spectrum of biological activities, changes in their structure have provided a high degree of diversity that has proved useful for the development of new medicinal agents with improved potency. Chalcone has become an object of continuing interest in both academia and industry. Indeed, it possesses health-promoting properties that are detected in vitro. To this end, we evaluated the biological activities of chalcone such as cytotoxicity, anti-hemolytic, anti-inflammatory and lipid peroxidation inhibition tests. Our results showed that chalcone is cytotoxic at high concentrations, furthermore the results of the present work demonstrate that chalcone has considerable anti-hemolytic effects compared to the reference molecules tested, chalcone also revealed an effective inhibition of thermal denaturation of bovine albumin with maximum percentages of 71.6%. In addition, chalcone caused an inhibition of lipid peroxidation at low concentrations, reflecting the antioxidant activity of chalcone. Our work therefore allows us to conclude that chalcone is a molecule that should be exploited, as it has a structure that provides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities at well-defined concentrations. This structure can be modified for the use of chalcone in different fields. | en_US |
