The present study aimed to prepare mesoporous molecular sieves SBA-15, Cu/SBA-15 and Ni/SBA-15 with Si/Cu=20.60 and Si/Ni=20.60 ratios. and to use them in the esterification of stearic acid with methanol for the production of biodiesel. Cu/SBA-15 and Ni/SBA-15 (Si/Ni, Cu=20.60) catalysts were selected and tested in reaction to produce methyl ester. The Cu/SBA-15 and Ni/SBA-15 mesoporous sieves are prepared by "post-synthesis" incorporation of the metal into the matrix of the mesoporous SBA-15 type material, and the source of nickel and copper used was from sulphate. of nickel II and copper chloride. All samples were characterized with respect to their structures and textures by XRD. In addition, they were characterized by BET and FTIR. The stearic acid esterification reaction was carried out in a reflux assembly, with stirring, for reaction times of 4, 8 and 24 hours at 70° C using 0.56g of acid, 32ml of alcohol and 0.05 of catalyst (Cu/SBA- 15(20.60) and Ni/SBA-15(20.60). The reaction products were characterized by TLC The success of the synthesis of molecular sieves (Cu/SBA-15(20.60) and Ni/SBA-15(20.60) was observed for all the techniques used. The result of the yields obtained for Ni/SBA -15(20.60) and Cu/SBA-15(20.60) with 4.8 and 24 hours of reaction are almost similar results with some difference between the two catalysts. 20.60) and Cu/SBA-15(20.60) were subjected to an esterification reaction of stearic acid with methanol and the Ni/SBA-15(20.60) catalyst was more efficient than Cu /SBA-15(20, 60) The yield value for the Ni/SBA-15 catalyst (20.60) was between 73.2% and 85.5%.en_US
