In this work we will present a numerical simulation study of vibration of a rotating machine using the Matlab simulation software. For this in our work we have considered an ideal gearbox which consists of a pinion meshing with a gear. The pinion is coupled to an input shaft connected to a prime mover. The gear is connected to an output shaft. The shafts are supported by roller bearings on the gearbox housing. It has been assumed that one of the teeth of the gear suffers from a local defect such as chipping. This results in a high frequency impact occurring once per rotation of the gear. We will apply a synchronous time average to the output vibration signal. Next, we analyze a segment of the history and the power spectra for the time-synchronous averaged signals. Then we will compare the power spectra for the two signals and we will analyze the destruction of the faults distributed in the pinion and incorporation of its effects in the vibration signal. In the last part of this work we will analyze the vibration of rolling element bearing defectsen_US
