dc.description.abstract | The use of intravascular catheters in hospitals plays an essential role in a wide variety of therapies, improving the daily lives of many patients. However, these medical devices can be colonized by pathogens, in particular yeasts, where the risk of a possible infection cannot be ruled out. Faced with this problem, we conducted a study at the Benzerdjeb hospital in Ain Temouchent, with the aim of isolating and identifying yeasts of the Candida genus from peripheral venous catheters inserted for 48 hours or more. The identification was carried out by the API Candida gallery (Biomérieux ®, France), only strains belonging to the Candida genus were retained in this study. During the study period, 20 samples of peripheral venous catheters were taken, the frequency of contamination of the latter is 15%. A Candida albicans strain and Candida parapsilosis strain were isolated. These two strains constitute an infectious risk for our patients. For this, the placement of the catheter, a gesture although simple, strict hygiene measures to avoid any contamination, which makes the catheter unusable. | en_US |
