Abstract: Classroom interaction has been a central issue in teaching and learning English as a foreign language in the recent years. A large body of research was done about the effect of classroom interaction and its impact on the process of learning. This work aims at investigating the crucial role of interaction held inside the foreign language classroom on raising students’ level of motivation. The data were gathered by means of a questionnaire and structured interviews administered to first year students in order to examine their attitudes and viewpoints concerning the role of classroom interaction on students' motivation to learn. The study revealed that the participants in this study emphasized that interaction in the classroom setting is one strategy to help learners enhance their learning abilities. The study also showed that teaching based on interaction in the classroom can raise students motivation through making them participating, sharing their knowledge and achieve positive outcomes. These findings are discussed in terms of the effects they may have on classroom teaching practices and in terms of their pedagogical implications.
