Abstract: This study investigated the effect of hydrogen on reduction in area in relation to the storage time of a high carbon steel wire for C-Mn pre-stressed concrete in the context on hydrogen embrittlement of steel. The Monte Carlo Simulation method was employed for the probabilistic analysis. The concentration of hydrogen "C∞", the effective diffusion coefficient "De" these parameters were considered as random fields. The probabilistic response considered in the analysis was the reduction in area "Z". Numerical simulations that make use of second Fick’s law were used for the computation of this response. A parametric study was undertaken to investigate the effect of the input and the statistical parameters of the random variables on the probability distribution functions of the response. Also, this study contributes to bring more elements of comprehension on the spatial and temporal variability of the input and output parameters
