Abstract: Diabetes is a common disease in Algeria, with significant risks associated with its chronic complications. One of these chronic complications is diabetic nephropathy. This study focuses on medical research conducted at private hemodialysis centers and the hemodialysis departments of Algerian public hospitals in the western region, aiming to establish a relationship between diabetes (type 1 and type 2) and nephropathy. It is the first study documenting diabetes, its types, complications, and diabetic nephropathy. The results reveal that type 2 diabetic subjects are more affected by diabetic nephropathy compared to type 1 diabetic subjects, and they receive insulin treatment (via injection) as a form of therapy. The duration of diabetes is an important risk factor in the development of diabetic nephropathy. However, proper glycemic control and management of other risk factors can help mitigate this risk. Therefore, it is crucial for diabetic individuals to adopt a healthy lifestyle and follow medical recommendations to prevent renal complications associated with diabetes.
