Abstract: Serenoa repens (saw palmetto) is a palm in the Arecaceae family, native to the subtropical region of the southeastern United States. The fruits (berries) of this palm contain interesting properties which are used in different industries and they are also very effective and widely used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In order to find these interesting properties in saw palmetto berries purchased from Ain Témouchent, the antioxidant (catalase activity and DPPH scavenging activity), anti-inflammatory (inhibition of albumin denaturation) and antibacterials (minimum inhibitory concentration) have been studied. The results obtained showed that the berries of Serenoa repens possess a catalase activity which made it possible to degrade 15,26 mM of H2O2 in 1 min and a trapping activity of DPPH with an IC50 of 99,65 Also these berries contain an activity inhibitor of the denaturation of albumin by heat treatment with an IC50 of 6,85 and antibacterial activity against, P.aeruginosa, S. aureus and E.coli with MICs of, 2,46, 22, 22 and 2,46mg/mL, respectively.
