Abstract: Current treatment for diabetes is effective in lowering blood sugar. However, adequate daily blood sugar control is very difficult to achieve in most cases, which in the long term leads to the emergence of very serious complications. Algeria, rich in biodiversity and climate, is a very important geographic platform that deserves to be explored in the field of research for hypoglycemic molecules originating from plants. The aim of this survey is to show the many traditional remedies that have been used to control hyperglycemia and to identify anti-diabetic herbal medicines as well as their methods of preparation and their modes of action in the region of Ain Temouchent. The results of this survey show that the leaves and the decoction technique are the most used by the people surveyed. The results obtained made it possible to identify 23 species of medicinal plants used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes belonging to 18 botanical families, the most represented of which are Apiaceae, Lamiaceae and Asteraceae. These results constitute a good database for biological screening in the search for anti-diabetic herbal. molecules.
