dc.description.abstractIntroduction: People with type 2 diabetes have lower plasma vitamin C levels than people with normal blood sugar. This occurs due to increased oxidative stress, which plays a central role in the development of insulin resistance, as well as other associated complications. Several studies have shown an association between low plasma vitamin C levels and blood sugar control in diabetic patients. The aim of this systematic study is to determine whether vitamin C supplementation will have a beneficial effect in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: The present work is a systematic study. The publications taken are prospective observational studies, case-control, cohort, carried out between 2007 and 2020. Our work consists in determining the effect of vitamin C supplementation in patients with T2DM, namely glycemic parameters (FBG, HbA1c), lipid parameters (CT, TG, LDL and HDL), and anthropometric parameters. (IMC, WHR, WC, DBP, SBP). Results: the systematic study of ten articles showed a significant positive effect of glycemic parameters in 80% of the studies analyzed. With a marked decrease in fasting blood sugar and glycated hemoglobin. A positive effect of vitamin C supplementation on the lipid profile, in 70% of the studies, with significant decreases in total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-C and a significant increase in HDL-C. Vitamin C supplementation appeared to be beneficial on anthropometric parameters in 30% of the studies analyzed, with significant reductions in body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, waist circumference, diastolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure. Conclusion: vitamin C supplementation is beneficial in improving glycemic, lipid and anthropometric parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes. In addition, the age of the patient, the dosage of vitamin C and the duration of treatment are important factors in the response to vitamin C supplementation.en_US
