This research explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence on students' learning and pedagogical practices in Algerian higher education, specifically at Ain Temouchent University (Belhadj Bouchaib). As AI usage among students rises, concerns from teachers about over-reliance on these tools have surfaced, raising questions about their potential impact on critical thinking skills and independence, which are crucial for students' academic and career success. This study tries to determine how much AI applications can contribute to the learners’ academic outcomes. The researcher set two research questions that deal with the extent to which AI applications can improve students’ engagement and learning outcomes, and what are and the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing AI in Algerian higher education through conducting a case study based on Master 2 students of both specialties (Didactics and Applied Languages/ Literature) at the Department of Letters and English Language. The study suggests two hypotheses: Integrating AI applications in Algerian higher education significantly enhances student engagement and improves learning outcomes, and implementing AI in Algerian higher education in Ain Temouchent presents significant challenges and opportunities. A mixed method approach was adopted, including a questionnaire addressed to Master Two students, and a structured interview was performed with seven teachers. The findings indicate that while AI tools can enhance student learning experiences and outcomes and improve teaching methods, challenges such as lack of training and infrastructure gaps exist, with some teachers expressing resistance to AI technology in favor of traditional methods.
