dc.description.abstract | This study presents an environmentally friendly approach for the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) from Silybum marianum seeds, a plant commonly used in traditional medicine. The nanoparticles were prepared using zinc sulfate, followed by a calcination step. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and UV-visible analysis. The XRD results revealed good crystalline quality of the ZnO nanoparticles, with distinct peaks corresponding to the (002), (100), and (101) planes of the hexagonal (wurtzite) structure of ZnO. The IR analysis also confirmed the presence of the crystalline phase of ZnO. The UV-visible studies showed results consistent with significant absorption in the visible range, indicating the photocatalytic properties of the nanoparticles. Photocatalytic tests were carried out by varying the masses and concentrations of the nanoparticles, demonstrating their effectiveness in the degradation of organic pollutants. In addition, antibacterial tests were conducted, highlighting the antimicrobial properties of the ZnO nanoparticles. These results pave the way for numerous potential applications in the fields of environmental depollution and the fight against microbial infections. | en_US |
