dc.description.abstract | The lagooning process is widely recommended for rural areas in Algeria due to its low operating cost and the favorable influence of local climatic conditions. Additionally, from an environmental and health perspective, lagooning helps alleviate Algeria's water crisis by offering the possibility of reusing treated wastewater for irrigation. This study aims to evaluate the purification performance of lagooning in Algeria. For this purpose, the study focused on a natural lagooning station located in the wilaya of Aïn Témouchent, in El Amria. The analyses of the incoming and outgoing waters of this lagoon covered the following parameters: pH, TSS, BOD5, COD, NH4+. These analyses were conducted for the years 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. The results obtained show that the purification performances of the lagoons are influenced by climatic conditions and pollutant loads. The natural lagoon of El Amria has demonstrated a significant capacity to treat wastewater, although its performances can vary depending on the seasons and environmental conditions. In particular, the results indicate that purification efficiency is strongly linked to temperatures and precipitation, which influence biological processes within the lagoons. | en_US |
