Abstract: The undrained shear strength is a fundamental factor in characterizing the behavior of soils subjected to rapid loading. It is an essential element in the assessment of stability and design of civil engineering structures built on or in the ground. Soils in geotechnical engineering exhibit a wide range of grain sizes, from clays to sands. Some terrestrial materials combine the properties of these different fractions, resulting in complex behaviors under rapid loading. The objective of this project is to study the influence of soil texture on undrained shear strength values. For thispurpose, undrained shear tests were conducted using a laboratory vane shear apparatus on saturated samples with varying proportions of clay and sand. These samples were consolidated at different over-consolidation ratios to determine the SHANSEP equations and their associated key parameters. The findings have contributed to a better understanding of the impact of soil texture, over-consolidation degree, and density state on compression and swelling behavior. Furthermore, the results have enabled the identification of the necessary SHANSEP parameters to estimate normalized undrained shear strengthwith effective vertical stress, allowing for simulations of specific ground conditions at various depths. This information is crucial for studying and analyzing realistic geotechnical scenarios.
