Abstract: The blood system is a group of allo-typical antigens detected by specific antibodies on the surface of the membranes of red blood cells. There are several blood group systems, the most important in practice being the ABO and Rhesus (Rh) systems. The aim of this study was to present new statistics on the phenotypic prevalence of the ABO and Rhesus systems in Algeria, particularly in the wilaya of Ain Temouchent. Our study was a descriptive epidemiological study conducted at the Medeghri Hospital blood transfusion centre in Ain Temouchent on a sample of 5031 donors collected between 2019 and 2024, based on data collected from transfusion centre registers. At the end of this study, the most frequent blood group was group O (49.83%) as well as Rh positive (87.79%) and the least frequent was group AB (5.43%). Our results were similar to those of other studies carried out in Algerian cities and even on other populations around the world, which enabled us to place the CTS of the EPH MEDEGHRI in Ain Temouchent in the world in terms of haemotypology. At the end of this study, we concluded that our results were consistent with previous studies carried out in Algeria. These results were identical to those found in Mediterranean countries and showed that Algeria was in an intermediate situation between European and Black African countries.
