Abstract: In conclusion, this first chapter of our thesis allowed us to explore the use of myth as a means to enrich the vocabulary of third-year university learners. We began by defining myth as a symbolic narrative. We emphasized its narrative characteristics, such as its close connection to literature and pedagogy, highlighting its pedagogical potential for vocabulary instruction. We then focused on the vocabulary itself, which we defined as the set of words and expressions in a language. We underscored its crucial importance in foreign language learning and highlighted the challenges faced by third-year university learners in this area. In our analysis of the Greek myth of Narcissus, we identified key terms and expressions that can be taught and assimilated by learners. By using Greek mythology as a context, we demonstrated how the study of myths can enrich learners' vocabulary while enabling them to better understand and appreciate the culture. This pedagogical approach offers an effective and engaging method for vocabulary teaching and learning.
