This paper is part of the field of urban sociolinguistics. It deals with the question of the divisions of the city of Sidi-Bel-Abbès into "faubourgs" and "villages". Our objective is first to examine the factors that determine the use of these two toponyms and the issues that underlie them. Secondly, we explain how the transition from the toponym 'faubourg' to 'village' took place. Finally, we show how the divisions of the city are translated into representations, valorising, segregating or segregating attitudes.en_US
