Abstract: The κ-carrageenans (EC 3.2.1.83) are members of the family of glycosides hydrolases 16 (GH16), which can produce sulphated galactans called κ-carrageenans by selective hydrolysis of κ-carrageenan, a macromolecule widely used in various industries. These enzymes are produced only by marine bacterial species and are used in a variety of applications including biomedical and physiological fields, the textile industry… etc. In this study, physico-chemical analyses, analysis of secondary structure, structural properties, including homology modelling, refinement and validation of model quality, and functional analyses of kappa-carrageenase from Clostridium puniceum were carried out using various bioinformatic tools. The Κ-carrageenase was found to be thermostable and acidic in nature. The prediction of protein-protein interactions identified two potential functional partners.. This in silico analysis provides for the first time information on the fundamental properties of the predicted kappa-carrageenase of C. puniceum, what might be useful in explaining its applications as well as in subsequent expression and characterization studies
