Abstract: | Diabetes is most often represented by T1D and is the most common chronic disease in school-aged children. However, it is very difficult to accept the disease when the subject is a child or teenager, knowing that The disease is often referred to as a risk factor for eating disorders and in the long term promotes many complications. The aim of this work is to identify the metabolic disorders associated with T1D-related complications in children by analyzing some biochemical parameters and also to evaluate the nutritional intake as well as the influence of the latter on the metabolic control. This study was conducted on a sample of 80 children, including 40 diabetic children and 40 control children. The basic questionnaire as well as the 24-hour recall were recorded in the mother-child pairs to calculate the nutritional intake using the Régal plus. Also blood samples were taken to measure blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and also lipid and renal parameters. The highlight of the diet of the target population is an overexpression of simple carbohydrates in diabetic children compared to control children. On the other hand, the contributions in lipids and proteins were similar between the two groups. Similarly, a disruption of glycemic control has been demonstrated. The mean triglycerides and total cholesterol in DT1 children are usually normal. However, a significant increase in creatinine has been noted in patients. This study describes the dietary intake of diabetic children and assesses its impact on glycemic control. Efforts are still needed to improve care and prevention measures for children with diabetes, especially the most disadvantaged. |
