Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the content of polyphenols and total flavonoids, and the contribution
to the in vitro evaluation of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of the aqueous extract of the roots of
Salvadora persica L, a species belonging to the Salvadoraceae family.
The dosages of total polyphenols and flavonoids carried out on the aqueous crude extract were determined
from the calibration curves of gallic acid and catechin respectively. The results show that our extract is relatively
rich in polyphenols and flavonoids.
The antioxidant activity is tested by the free radical trapping method DPPH (2,2 diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl),
which indicates that the aqueous extract of S. persica has a very slow anti-radical power compared to that
standard antioxidant (ascorbic acid).
On the other hand, the anti-inflammatory activity studied using the method of membrane stabilization of
erythrocytes by hypotonic solution and by heat, has shown that our extract has an interesting anti-inflammatory
power, and at significant concentrations, it is similar to that of salicylic acid, which is a benchmark anti-
inflammatory
