Abstract
In order to know the medicinal plants traditionally used by the population of the Wilaya of
Mostaganem (North-West Algeria), a floristic and ethnobotanical study was carried out in this
region.
The study of medicinal flora has identified 91 species belonging to 41 families and 71 genera.
Likewise, a series of ethnobotanical surveys carried out using a questionnaire made it possible to
collect a certain amount of information, the most important of which is that the population of
Mostaganem still uses medicinal plants as their main means of treatment, As the illiterates who live
in the douars are the most dependent on traditional treatments, and women constitute the majority of
them (69, 8%), people over 40 represent (52.8%).
The results of this study showed that the foliage is the most used part (40.12%). The majority
of remedies are prepared in the form of a decoction (48.76%). Of all the diseases treated, digestive
disorders represent the most frequently cited diseases (24.76%).
